Aldi Enters Texas
March 12, 2009
German discount grocer Aldi plans to open 25 to 35 stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas (US) by fall 2009 and a distribution center to serve the Texas region.
Boasting the creation of nearly 400 jobs and a $125 million capital investment purse, Aldi is gearing up to enter the Texas market with a slew of new stores and a $50 million, 500,000-square-foot distribution center in Denton that’s currently under construction and expected to open in January 2010.
Having already invested more than $50 million in capital expenditures with more to come, the distribution center will service 25 new Aldi stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that are slated to begin opening in March 2010.
“We’re looking forward to becoming a part of the North Texas community and bringing great food and good jobs to the area,” said Scott Huska, Aldi’s division VP. The company’s Texas expansion, added Huska, will offer consumers up to 50 percent savings vs. where they currently shop, along with a “great working environment with well-paying jobs” for local residents.
With its U.S. headquarters in Batavia, Ill., German retailer Aldi has grown without mergers or acquisitions and averages 20 to 30 new stores per year; it opened more than 100 new locations across the United States in 2008 and plans to open more than 75 new stores this year.
